In my Soles

The purpose of my series is to showcase the different ways sneakers interact in a non-street like environment. I think it is very common to see sneakers be seeing in urban environments throughout photography or the visual world. Putting them in unusual and unique environments has allowed me to evoke the moods that each pair of sneakers creates individually. The start of this series began with doing research on still life photographers that use still life photography to connect their subject to their choice of environment. The photographers that truly captured the essence of still life were Henry Hargreaves, Krista Van der Niet and Evelyn Bencicova. Once I got a better understanding on the different aspects and perspective on still life I started experimenting.  I set designed 3 different environments for each sneaker, throughout the 3 there is a blend of natural and artificial props. One consists of real natural flowers, the second one consists of 2 different textures of fabrics such as faux fur and suede, and lastly the third environment concept was on creating an illusion of a sky with clouds by using poly-fil and a blue backdrop. However, I did experiment with a glitter like paper to create glitter vase environment but It did not end up working out.
